Breast Lift
As a woman ages, her skin loses some elasticity, causing the
breast to sag under the pull of gravity. Pregnancy can cause the
breast to lose firmness and volume.
A breast lift, or Mastopexy, is a procedure for safely lifting
the sagging breast. In the procedure, excess skin is removed and
the nipple raised to a higher position. This procedure involves
rearranging the breast tissue.
The breast skin is reshaped and tailored to create a more
youthful breast.
For better results, your surgeon may recommend the use of breast
implants along with the breast lift/mastopexy procedure.
The operation takes between two to three hour. Sutures are
removed in 7 to 10 days.
Normal daily activities can be resumed within 3 weeks following
surgery.
What To Expect After Surgery
Pain is rarely strong, more commonly being a degree of
discomfort. Swelling occurs but usually begins to subside by the
third or fourth day. Some degree of swelling may persist for
longer periods. A well-fitted bra is worn day and night for
three weeks. While there is probably seldom interference with
future breast feeding, women are cautioned that it may not be
possible to breast feed in the future.
