Recent news reports about ‘non-medical grade’ silicone filled implants leaking into women’s bodies have brought attention to breast augmentation. But there are alternatives to such risky implants, including the saline implant. Saline-filled implants mean that if there is any damage to the implant and the saline fluid leaks, the body absorbs it within 24 hours. It’s not dangerous at all. And what about the fear of a horrible scar? It’s actually possible to have your breasts augmented without any kind of scar at all. The transumbilical approach – yes, through the bellybutton – leaves no visible scars and also allows for a faster recovery period compared with other techniques. For this method I use the saline implant. Due to the recent scare about Poly Implant Prothese(PIP), the International Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery (ISAPS) and the Lebanese Society of Plastic, Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgery (LSPRAS) strongly advises that all women who’ve had breast implants check with their doctor or hospital to determine if their implants were indeed PIP breast implants. |
