Pregnancy: it’s tough on the feet, even tougher on the tummy. Luckily, a foot massage isn’t your only option. |
A prenatal massage is a touch therapy customised for the expectant mother, and a healthy way to assist her body through this transformative period.
It offers a wide range of physiological, emotional and psychological benefits. It has been found to reduce stress, decrease swelling in the arms and legs, and alleviate aches and pains in muscles and joints. It’s also a complimentary therapy during pregnancy for back pain.
Not only can massage be physically beneficial, but the human touch can be comforting and provide emotional support during pregnancy – it works to decrease anxiety and depression.
In order to ensure the safety of the baby, the mother-to-be will be asked to lie on her side, pillows surrounding her for comfort. Using a special oil, the lower back, hips and neck will receive special attention. In addition, edema in the legs will be believed with a natural wrapping for heavy legs and circulatory massage. Typically it lasts one hour.
There is a time though when prenatal massage is not recommended: If the woman has diabetes or high blood pressure, or she is in the early stages of pregnancy. The massage can be adjusted though to make it as soothing and as useful as possible
